Early Intervention Speech Therapy (0–3 Years)

Helping your toddler communicate, connect, and be understood

Early intervention speech therapy supports babies and toddlers who are not yet talking, using few words, or having difficulty communicating. We focus on building strong foundations for communication, interaction, play, and feeding through connection and everyday routines.

We work closely with families to support language development through play, responsive interaction, and practical strategies you can use at home.

Services are available in-person on the Sunshine Coast and online across Australia.

Early support can make a meaningful difference for toddlers with speech delay, limited vocabulary, or early communication difficulties.

Is this your child?

Early intervention may be helpful if your child:

  • Does not babble or use gestures like pointing, waving “bye-bye”, or showing things

  • Is unable to imitate actions, words, or gestures

  • Is not yet using words or has a limited vocabulary

  • Uses fewer words than other children their age

  • Is slower to combine words into short phrases

  • Has difficulty understanding simple instructions

  • Shows frustration when trying to communicate

  • Relies on gestures more than words

  • Is a “late talker”

  • Is growing up in a bilingual or multilingual home, and you’re unsure what’s typical

If you’ve noticed any of these, early support can make a big difference in your child’s communication and confidence.

How we support early development

We use play-based, relationship-focused therapy tailored to your child’s strengths, interests, and developmental stage.

Support may include:

  • Parent and carer coaching to build confident, everyday communication strategies

  • Play-based therapy supporting early interaction, attention, and turn-taking

  • Support for early language comprehension and expression

  • Guidance for encouraging first words, gestures, and vocabulary growth

  • Strategies for daily routines such as mealtimes, play, and shared activities

  • Support for bilingual and multilingual families from the earliest stages

  • Support for toddlers with speech delay and early communication challenges

What therapy looks like

Early intervention is collaborative and family-centred.

Sessions are designed to feel natural, engaging, and play-based. We focus on practical strategies you can use in everyday routines—at home, in childcare, and during play—so your child learns through connection and interaction.

You’ll leave sessions with clear, realistic strategies you can use straight away.

We also provide guidance around feeding concerns when early communication and feeding skills overlap.

What progress can look like

Every child develops at their own pace, but early support can help your child:

  • Use more words to express their needs

  • Become easier to understand

  • Follow instructions more consistently

  • Engage more during play and interaction

  • Feel less frustrated when communicating

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will my child grow out of it?

Some children do catch up naturally, but it’s not always easy to predict. Early support can reduce frustration, strengthen confidence, and support smoother development.

  • Does speaking two languages cause speech delay?

No. Speaking more than one language does not cause speech delay. We support bilingual and multilingual families in strengthening both languages confidently.
